Secure Your Education Network

By continuing to evolve the assessment process, coverage areas, and providing real world recommendations and guidance along the way, AIS believes the continued assessment engagements can assist in improving the cyber security posture of educational institutions.

Yearly Risk Assessments

AIS performing these assessments are crucial for maintaining the organization's security posture and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. By systematically identifying and analyzing vulnerabilities, the member counties can implement targeted mitigation strategies to minimize potential threats. Furthermore, regular risk assessments help in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and resilience, empowering the organization to adapt proactively to evolving cyber threats and operational challenges.

Adversary Emulation

By simulating these sophisticated cyber threats using adversary emulation, organizations can proactively identify and address vulnerabilities within their security infrastructure. Using this approach, AIS not only enhances their preparedness against potential breaches but also fosters a deeper understanding of the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) employed by adversaries. Furthermore, such emulation exercises provide invaluable insights that can inform the development of robust defensive strategies, ensuring that the organization's cybersecurity measures remain resilient in the face of evolving threats.

External and Internal Vulnerability Scans

These scans are essential in maintaining the security posture of the organization by proactively identifying potential threats before they can be exploited by malicious actors. Regular vulnerability assessments help in the timely patching and remediation of identified weaknesses, thus reducing the attack surface. Furthermore, the insights gained from these scans enable the organization to prioritize its resources effectively, focusing on the most critical vulnerabilities that pose the highest risk. By integrating these scans into the broader cybersecurity strategy, AIS allowed the organization to enhance its resilience against cyber threats and ensure the protection of its assets and data.

Maryland Department of IT Compliance

Based on the Maryland Department of IT (DoIT) State Minimum Cybersecurity Standards which align to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (NIST CSF). AIS built an assessment portal to easily document and track the member’s coverage of the NIST CSF. AIS worked with the members to understand the control in more detail and guided them through the assessment process. The final review was completed by AIS and provided a report containing three main sections - Executive Summary, Remediation Plan Summary, and Full Control Details. In addition, we provide comprehensive training to ensure that all team members understand and adhere to these standards. Our approach includes regular audits and updates to our practices, ensuring that we remain compliant with evolving regulations. Collaboration with state officials and continuous monitoring of compliance metrics are integral to our process, allowing us to preemptively address potential issues and maintain a high standard of security and efficiency across all operations.

Policy and Procedure Development

This involves a thorough assessment of the current IT landscape, identifying potential risks, and implementing strategies to mitigate them. By establishing clear guidelines and protocols, AIS aimed to enhance the organization's resilience against cyber threats and ensure continuity of operations during unforeseen events. The development process is collaborative, incorporating feedback from various stakeholders to ensure that the policies are practical, comprehensive, and aligned with industry best practices. Regular reviews and updates are also part of the procedure to adapt to the evolving technological environment and emerging threats.
